Frequently Asked Questions
Which script formats does the counter accept?
Two formats are supported: speaker labels such as MARIA: followed by dialogue on the same line, and screenplay cues where an ALL-CAPS character name on its own line introduces the dialogue lines that follow it.
How is speaking time calculated?
Speaking time divides each speaker word count by your selected pace, with 150 words per minute as the conversational default. Real delivery varies with pauses, direction and performance, so treat the time as a planning estimate.
What happens to lines without a speaker label?
Unlabelled lines, such as scene headings and action description, are grouped separately so the per-speaker totals stay clean and the overall word count still reconciles.
